Epilepsy made me feel so alone for years

One thing has taken me from being isolated and alone to feeling purposeful and whole.

And that is community.

Not just any community: The epilepsy community.

This wasn't initially why I started talking about epilepsy, but it's been one of the most impactful outcomes of it.

The friendships feel immediate, bonds feel stronger than I could've imagined, and the level of understanding of so much of my life.

Not just the bad parts or the bad days that come with epilepsy.

They're here for the good parts too.

To laugh with you about things other people without epilepsy would cringe about.

If you feel comfortable in doing so, I'd recommend speaking about epilepsy and finding the amazing people around you that do exist.

Because we aren't alone.

We stand together in this. ❤️ this is how I changed that in 2026 for years, the denial and my internalised epilepsy stigma meant I was silent.

I couldn’t imagine that anyone around me could relate.

But I decided to start talking about it this year, and now, I have met more people with epilepsy in the past 12 months than in the last 15 years.

And what I’ve found has been surprising...

People with epilepsy understand me in ways I didn’t even realise I needed.

I underestimated what I’d experience: I’ve had conversations that I never wanted to end.

A feeling of visibility and wholeness I can’t describe.

Friendships full of understanding, not judgement.

This may be your sign to start talking, because the journey of epilepsy can be so isolating.

Don’t walk it alone.
